Record Shopping Photo Essay
Friday, October 23, 2009Cool photo essay on music and media up on Slate today that examines the evolution of human interaction with music. It’s something that at one point used to be a very physical thing, but has basically become a virtual experience as most music lives on ipod’s and computers.

Clipse: We Got The Remix
Wednesday, October 21, 2009This mixtape has been floating around for a while now, but I wanted to re-up it for anyone that missed it. It features unreleased tracks and remixes by some of today’s hottest producers like Diplo, Ghislain Poirier, A.Brucker & Sinden, Nick Catchdubs, Jake One, and The Amps. Benzi does a great job mixing this one and shows why the Clipse are one of the best rap groups out there.

Winds of Change
Wednesday, October 14, 2009As promised, here’s the first installment of the Dreams in Audio seasonal mixtape series, Winds of Change. In picking tracks for this mix I couldn’t decide if they should be songs that evoke feelings of Fall or if they should actually be about it. There’s a mix of both here, a lot of them having that rainy day feel, but I tried to throw a few in there that were more exciting and signaled change and transformation. I found myself gravitating towards folk and stuff of that nature, and then segued into a little bit of jazz. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the mix as a whole so I’m not sure exactly how all of the songs will sound together. The track listing is kind of all over the place, but hopefully it’s something people will dig. Enjoy.

House Remixed
Friday, October 9, 2009
I’ve always had a ton of respect for People Under the Stairs. Since the 90’s they’ve been one of the most consistent groups in hip hop, in large part to Thes One’s (real name Christopher Portugal) relentless pursuit of the perfect beat. Over the years I’ve read a lot of articles and interviews with him and have no doubt that his artistic talents reach well beyond music. A recent article in the Los Angeles Times further supports that fact as it showcases the journey and outcome of his latest project, a complete overhaul of a house he bought with his wife Ritu back in 2004. Even more amazing is that he did it with no prior home improvement experience.
I’ve had numerous conversations with my wife about our dream of one day buying a house, and this article further inspires and excites me about that prospect. It’s clear the Portugal and his wife have great taste, and a clear sense of style and space. The global aesthetics are a great touch and definitely makes the home feel more like an escape than just a place to eat and sleep.
A great family, nice house, lots of records and video games……what else could you want?

A Song For The Highway
Wednesday, October 7, 2009Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I was off getting married and honeymooning in Maui, but I’m back and wanted to post this mix that me and the wifey handed out to our wedding guests. It’s basically a mix of songs that are meaningful to our relationship in one way or another. Obviously, many of them strike a romantic chord, but others are like time capsules, bringing us back to specific moments in our relationship, while others are simply songs that we both enjoy. Needless to say, it’s a very sentimental mix to us, and we hope it’s something others will enjoy.
