I finally acquired an original copy of the Jackson Sisters’ “I Believe in Miracles” 45 a few weeks ago, an absolute crate classic and favorite amongst collectors, DJs and producers. Many people assume that this was the original version, but it was in fact originally co-written and performed by Mark Capanni, whose more soulful and almost folksy version failed to make waves on public radio and was quickly pulled from shelves.
The Jackson Sisters’ rendition will also remain a classic in my mind, but after finally obtaining a copy, I’ve found that I’ve heard it so many times that it’s lost a lot of the charm and novelty that it once had. As the grooves of people’s copies beg for a breather, Jazzman’s recent reissue of Capanni’s original is rather timely.
